Sankramana is an initiative by one of Bangalore’s best known organizations
promoting the arts, ANANYA, to recognize outstanding service to the classical
arts. Bangalore’s dancer couple Kiran Subramanyam and Sandhya Kiran were
featured in this initiative. The couple has trained under Bangalore’s Guru.

guests on the occasion and they were honoured by ANANYA for receiving the
Padma Bhushan and more recently, the G D Birla Award for lifetime achievement
in the classical arts.

discussion on Changing trends in classical dance choreography in the present
times. The speakers were Sri. V P Dhananjayan, Sri. Ashish Mohan
Khokar, Dr. Sunil Kothari, Smt. B Bhanumathi, and Sri. Kiran Subramanyam.
This session was followed by a demonstration of unique choreographic works
by Sri. V P Dhananjayan. The session was well attended and Sri. V P Dhananjayan
received a standing ovation.
The evening session started with
an audio visual presentation of Kiran and Sandhya’s artistic journey. This
was followed by the felicitations. The evening ended with a performance
RASIKAARPANA by the disciples of Kiran and Sandhya, featuring the newest
choreographic works of the couple. The performance was well appreciated
by connoisseurs and lay audiences, for its innovative concepts in Bharathanaatyam.
